Michael Brotchner, Executive Director

In May 2007, ORI's Board of Directors selected Michael Brotchner as the organization's new Executive Director. Prior to joining ORI, Michael was the Director of Development for the Fund for Public Schools, which secures private funding for the New York City Department of Education's reform efforts and develops public-private partnerships. At the Fund, Michael successfully led fundraising efforts that resulted in major support from a wide variety of foundations, corporations, and individuals. Michael has served on numerous nonprofit Boards and is on the Executive Committee for Root Capital, which provides affordable financial services to community-based businesses operating in Latin America, Africa, and Asia. Michael holds an MBA from the Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley, and a BA from Wesleyan University.

Kimberly Greenberg, Development & Communications Associate

Kimberly graduated with honors from Wesleyan University, where she majored in French and an interdisciplinary program combining European history, literature and philosophy. She has won a number of awards and prizes for her writing and she co-founded Wesleyan Without Borders, which conducted health care development projects in Mexico and Peru. She served as the chair of the advisory committee for "Channel Peace: A Journal on International Conflict and Mediation," a student-focused project sponsored by the Education and Training Center of the United States Institute of Peace.

Charles Rukikanshuro, Country Director
Before joining ORI, Charles spent two years as a Technical Assistant in a youth and civic education program operated by GTZ, a German NGO. Charles has also worked for the Secretary General of the General Association of Students of the National University of Rwanda. Charles holds a Bachelor's degree in English Linguistics and a Bachelor's degree in Law; he is fluent in French, English, and Kinyarwanda.

Becca Schendel, Director of Programs
Becca joined Orphans of Rwanda in July 2008 from the University of Maryland, where she was the Coordinator of Semester Programs in the Study Abroad Office. While at Maryland, Becca managed five study abroad programs and spearheaded UM's new program development, including establishing a service-based summer program that connected Maryland students with HIV+ youth in northern Cameroon. Prior to working at the University of Maryland, Becca worked for the NSEP Scholarship program at the Institute of International Education in Washington, DC. Becca holds a Masters of Education in Higher Education Administration from Harvard University and a BA in African History from Brown.

Beata Mukeshimana, Health Services Officer
Beata, first becoming a nurse in 1982, has worked with many health organizations in numerous locations throughout Rwanda. Earning her initial nursing diploma in Gitarama in 1982, she furthered her education in 2007 by acquiring a secondary nursing diploma from the Kigali Health Institute. Prior to working with ORI, Beata has also worked with the Norwegian People's Aid which provided healthcare to urban refugees from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Burundi, and Somalia. During this time, Beata oversaw HIV/AIDS prevention campaigns and a start-up pharmacy. She now comes to us from Gisimba Memorial Centre, where she still volunteers her time and trains the medical staff.
